Elizabeth Weisberg practices in the Family Law group. She is an experienced divorce attorney, skilled in both litigation and in alternative dispute resolution. She has worked nationally on child support issues and is especially proficient at helping her clients accomplish their goals. Ms. Weisberg emphasizes resolving even difficult family law situations without going to court when possible, with a special focus on custody and child access resolution in order to protect children from being hurt by the divorce.

Ms. Weisberg has worked with the American Bar Association's Child Support Project educating attorneys, judges and court personnel nationally on interstate child support enforcement laws and procedures. She has contributed to various legal publications on topics including custody, evidence, long-arm jurisdiction in interstate child support cases, and implementation of the Child Support Enforcement Amendments of 1984.

In addition to zealously representing her clients in court, Ms. Weisberg is experienced in collaborative law, a process by which divorcing couples agree to work together with their attorneys in meetings where the concerns of both parties are addressed, with a commitment to resolve all legal and practical issues leading to a full divorce settlement agreement without going to court. This process is private, can help couples to reach immediate solutions, and sets the stage for the parties to better deal with changes that may occur after the divorce, such as the need to revise support or child-related issues. While not appropriate for all couples, in many cases the collaborative law approach can be transformative and can avoid the escalation of hostility inherent in litigation.

Ms. Weisberg received a B.A. degree from The George Washington University in Washington, DC in 1972, and received her J.D. degree With Honors from GW’s National Law Center in 1976. She is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia, and is a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court.

Ms. Weisberg is a founding member of Collaborative Dispute Resolution Professionals, Inc. and sits on CDRP’s Executive Board of Directors. She is also a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the D.C. Academy of Collaborative Professionals, and the Maryland Collaborative Practice Council, and has presented workshops on collaborative law for the D.C. Psychological Society and for Jewish Social Services Agency, among others.
